Raison D'etre

Raison D'etre means reason of being (not reason FOR being). It's a French word which is used for the ending song title for a Japanese animation, Chobits.

I have been listening to that song since I was Form 2, all thanks to my neighbour's influence. When I read the meaning of the word in the newspaper, the word was buried deep in my memories, never to be forgotten, forever.

Now that I have graduated, I've been thinking what's my justification for living in this world. Be as rich as Bill Gates? Change the world? Leave amazing artwork pieces behind after my death?

While I was teaching tuition, I reread the poem "Life Brief Candle" by Shakespeare. It got me thinking, a dusty death awaits for us all at the end of our life, no matter who you are and where you're from. So, what separates an individual from another since we are all gonna end up the same way?

I'll have everyone thinking about their Raison D'etre too, for life only goes by once. There's no second chance.
