Somnus (Sleep in Latin)

Have anyone read the latest manga chapter (chapter 329) of Magi - Labyrinth of Magic? Not to speak too much and spoil the story for other fans of the series, but in this particular chapter, Sinbad decided to reveal his true nature, as a person who is greedy and ambitious.

Actually, this is not entirely a bad thing. In fact, I believe that is part of a human nature, to hoard resources in order to secure one's survival. Personally, I believed that a moderate amount of greed and ambition would help fuel one's motivation for self-improvement. In order to seek for a better life quality or high social ranking, we need to put in more thoughts and efforts than the other people around us. One such outcome is an increase in one's productivity. Furthermore, this may encourage others to cooperate or compete, if and only if the playing ground is level. Overall, this may result in socioeconomy progression of a community.

If we are too contentious of our existing lifestyle, we may soon settle into our comfort zone. As a result, we may lose any will or momentum to make positive changes in all of our works and effort. Personally, I suffered from this phenomemon quite recently. It took a lot of effort for me to make a jump out of that comfort zone into a new workspace. However, for better or for worse, I do see that some of my peers have fallen deep inside this pitfall.

Of course, reality is not all that ideal. In face of competition, many people may resort to under-hand tactics to undermine their competitors. On this issue, I believe the labour law and work ethics have been established to alleviate it. Nevertheless, the strict compliance to labour law and work ethics by the masses may still be poor. The ideal situation is not yet a reality.

As opposed, greed and ambition is bad when in excess. If one is consumed by greed and ambition, he or she may be too focused onto protecting their own self-interests and commit criminal acts with are against social order. Again, I would rely on laws and ethics to manage this problem, which may also be assisted through morality, religion and home education.

Allow me to write more on this topic later, when I have more time to read and understand about capitalism and socialism.

Demonic Drive

After a long while of only paperwork and oral discussion,
I have finally started on my actual research work
Hopefully I will be able to complete the research
within the stipulated time
It's not that I do not enjoy studying and researching
However, the lack of a better income source is hurting my lifestyle
and I find the need to work and contribute directly to the industry
be it agriculture, medical, chemical or water industry
I hope that I could use my knowledge and skills
to help the socio-economy of the country

Currently, I am obsessed with this particular Online Trading Card game
where you try to collect all cards/characters
while you slowly go through its plot and settings
But hopefully my obsession would die out
so that I can focus on completing my research and publication

Ice-cream and Sunscreen

In the northern hemisphere
Summer season has arrived for them
As such, most who live there would experience
heat waves, typhoons or flash floods
These are some reasons why
Mother Nature should never be taken lightly

For Malaysians and some other Asians,
this would be a season for durians
Now is the time we indulge ourselves by consuming a lot
of these pungent fruits
...
...
...
Allow me to lose myself in thoughts
As uncertainties and insecurities occupies my mind

Superman

Recently, after having some talk with a childhood friend
I have reignited my drive to improve in drawing
After all, it is my dream to teach kids about science through my writing and drawing
With that being said, I still have yet to master the skills of photography
which I intend to make it into my tool-of-trade

At the moment, I am focusing on writing a review paper for publication
This will be the first for me, so I am putting a lot of effort to do this
Even though it may be rejected by the reviewers,
I am sure I would be able to make the required corrections for future publishing purpose
Hopefully I will be a better academic writer after this entire experience

7 Years

Teaching is indeed a noble job
Being in the position to transfer knowledge and skills to the next-generation is a selfless task that usually does not reward sufficiently, save for the small amount of work satisfaction when your students are being obedient and attentive to your lessons

However, teachers are often under pressured to perform well. Personally I had a short stint of teaching primary school students with science and mathematics in Mandarin at a tuition centre, which I doubt I did a satisfactory job. At times, I even thought that I might impaired their understanding on certain subjects through my poor teaching.
"Did I teach the students well today? Do they understand the lesson?"
"Is this syllabus correct? Do I need to cover all of these in this short period?"
"Will the students perform well in the upcoming exam?"
"Why is these few kids so misbehaved? Why are they interrupting other students from studying?"
These are some of the questions that ran through my mind by the end of every workday.

Nevertheless, I believe that I could be better in teaching over time. Hopefully my current learning process would give me the chance to learn and be a better teacher to others.

Anyhow, Happy Teacher's Day.

May the great teachers in the world continued to be rewarded and motivated to carry on the noble job of educating the next generation of youngsters.

Megalomania

megalomania
· n. obsession with the exercise of power. Ø delusion about one’s own power or importance (typically as a symptom of manic or paranoid disorder).
- Oxford Concise Dictionary, 10th edition

I guess, for people who have been reading a lot
or been watching inspiring videos
or listening to motivational talks
may think that one day,
he or she may achieve the same success
that was mentioned in one of those sources
That is the true motive of those materials
which is to inspire others to achieve their greater potential

However, on the other end of the spectrum
there is a group of individuals
who may be delusional about one's own importance
which may result in further conflicts with other humans
and so I thought
as I was reading on the terror attacks in Turkey
and other historical events like the Bosnian War in the 90's
This could also be applicable to present events of the world
such as the aggressiveness of China in asserting their military prowess in the Spartly Islands

All this above is just some random sum-of-thoughts
as I sit in front of my laptop, thinking about my pesticide formulation works.
